33. Problems Are Not Necessarily Impossibilities

33. Problems Are Not Necessarily Impossibilities

Two men set out to fulfill a dream. There dream was to build a bridge. No one believed that their dream was possible. But they persisted and the building project began. Things were on course until a construction accident rudely interrupted their work. The accident was fatal leaving killing one of the men and leaving the other physically invalid with permanent brain damage, and an inability to speak and walk. It seemed the dream was over. It would never see the light of day. This is the story of John and Washington Roebling and their vision to build the Brooklyn Bridge in 1863.

Friends, welcome to Intervention Radio for Undergraduates, a program produced by VISION BUILDERS to help undergraduates contact divine intervention for academic victories. Every week on Intervention Radio we bring you inspirational messages and study tips to help you be your best academically.

Today, God is set to bless you by removing every barrier against your academic success and fulfillment. This is Intervention Radio for Undergraduates, and I am your host Tope Banjo.

Did you know that Problems Are Not Necessarily Impossibilities? In fact, that is what we will be discussing today.

Sometimes in a student’s life, problems seem to sprout in unexpected places without providing advance warnings. Much as we are displeased when problems arise, for example tough courses or hard-to-please lecturers, poor grades, we find that we cannot really move forward in our academic purposes and pursuits until we deal with these unsolicited problems. How can we handle problems that arise to threaten academic goals and dreams? Are there provisions we can rely upon to still make a comeback?

The Brooklyn Bridge that spans the river tying Manhattan Island to Brooklyn is truly a miracle bridge. In 1863, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea for this spectacular bridge. However, bridge-building experts throughout the world told him to forget it; it could not be done.

Roebling convinced his son, Washington, who was a young up and coming engineer, that the bridge could be built. The two of them developed the concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With unharnessed excitement and inspiration, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.

The project was only a few months under construction when a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling and severely injured his son, Washington. Washington was left with permanent brain damage and was unable to talk or walk. Everyone felt that the project would have to be scrapped since the Roeblings were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built.

Even though Washington was unable to move or talk, his mind was as sharp as ever, and he still had a burning desire to complete the bridge. An idea hit him as he lay in his hospital bed, and he developed a code for communication. All he could move was one finger, so he touched the arm of his wife with that finger, tapping out the code to communicate to her what to tell the engineers who were building the bridge. For thirteen years, Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger until the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge was finally completed.

The message I bring you today is that PROBLEMS ARE NOT NECESSARILY IMPOSSIBILITIES!

But WHAT exactly is a problem? The Wordweb provides three graphic definitions for the word Problem:
1) A problem is a state of difficulty that needs to be resolved
2) It is a question raised for consideration or solution, and
3) It is also called a source of difficulty

Again I charge you, Problems Are Not Necessarily Impossibilities. For one, academic problems do not imply or signify the end of academic ability. Rather they only inspire questions that call for concentrated consideration and solutions.

Every single day you face problems in your academic life, know that you have questions to ask and answer. The interesting thing is that every problem has a solution. The only challenge is finding the particular solution. That is one reason why Thomas Edison could keep going on with so many experiments until he finally got the answer that produced the incandescent light bulb.

For example, body odour is a problem for a number of people. You just don’t want to be stuck in the same room with someone who has that problem. But there are answers to the body odour problem, such as taking a good bath about twice daily and applying good deodorants and cosmetics. You could also use an air-freshener to deodorize your room.

Truth is, you are a professional walking problem solver, from the moment you wake up till you fall asleep. You resolve the problem of distance by getting on the bus. You deal with the problem of hunger by eating food. You overcome the environmental health problems by wearing adequate clothes. In fact, lying down to sleep is your solution to tiredness, stress and ill-health.

But why do some undergraduates get stagnated when academic problems arise? Truth is, you may think life would be better if there were no problems whatsoever, but that is the exact opposite. You could never have a degree in anything academic if the world did not have problems that certain intellectual and professional solutions were needed to deal with. You could never have good grades if there were no problems to provide answers to. Your grades are actually rewards for learning to solving problems. The more problems you can solve, the more marks and the better your solutions, the better grades you can get. The same principle will apply to your future career. The level of expertise you display at solving human problems will determine the level of wealth and recognition you enjoy in life.

Never forget, Problems Are Not Necessarily Impossibilities. According to Henry J. Kaiser, “Problems are opportunities in work clothes.” The abundance of environmental and socio-economic problems has created such a massive platform for the discerning youth of today, and I want to urge you to take advantage of this situation. Ensure you carve out your own place in the problem solving industry.

Don’t allow the little challenges of campus life deter you from your real destination. Acquire every skill you can. Learn to drive, to swim, to climb mountains and build engines. Learn to paint and make clothes. Learn any skill that comes your way. Skills are doors for providing solutions to human needs. Learn how to Sell and public speaking. Learn how to make a presentation and do research. Learn how to solve problems on as wide a basis as possible.

It was Bertha Munro who said, “A problem is an opportunity to prove God.” God himself asked Abraham in Gen 18:14, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

There are basically two types of problems that every student faces.

First is the type that you can actually do something about. For example, learning and attending classes, taking notes and doing research. These are vital actions you must perform daily and consistently to succeed in school.

The second class of problem is that which you may not be able to do anything about. For example, I heard about a student who sat for an exam but was recorded as absent and her exam paper could not be found. Another could be the incapacitation or death of a parent or financial sponsor. To overcome such problems you might require a miracle. You might need God to step in with a divine intervention.

My dear friend, what is the nature of problems you may be facing today? Do you know that there is already a solution? You only need to find it. For problems that you can do something about, why not start today taking that action that you know you should take? But if your situation today is one that requires a divine intervention, let me assure you that you are in the right place.

In Genesis 21, Hagar, the slave of Sarah, wife of Abraham was in the desert with her son Ishmael after God told Abraham to send both of them away. Their water was used up and the situation got quite terrible. They needed water. Things got worse and it seemed Ishmael would die of thirst, but in verse 19, the bible says she got a miracle. Her miracle was unique. Her eyes were opened and she saw a well of water. Sometimes the pain of our problem clouds our sight and we cannot see the solutions that are already available. Although the well was already there, it took God opening her eyes before she saw the well that had been there all the while.

Today, my prayer is that God would open your eyes to see the well of solutions already present all around you and also give you the grace to draw from them to meet your needs. I pray that you will be discerning to seize the opportunities that God has already provided for your today and tomorrow within the walls and systems of your university. If you are diligent, focused, relentless in your positive pursuits, and resolute in pursuing your academic goals, you will prosper and become a great success. Man is yet to meet a problem that defied all solutions. Yours will definitely not be the first.

Before I sign off, I want to ask if you have resolved the biggest problem in life, the problem of your eternity. Where will you spend it? Or rather, I should ask, where would you like to spend it? I have a suggestion. Why not spend it with God in heaven?

Why not give your heart to the Lord today? Receive the Lord Jesus as your Lord and personal savior. He is waiting and cares about how well your academic life moves. Please say this simple prayer right now:

Heavenly Father I ask you to please come into my life today. I believe that your son Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose from the dead. Forgive all my sins today and make me your child. Fill me with your Holy Spirit right now and bring stability into my academics and life. Thank you for coming. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer with me then know that the Lord Jesus Christ has become your Lord and personal Saviour. You have begun a divine relationship that will begin a great positive transformation in your life. Please write to me at buildyourvisions@gmail.com or send an SMS to 0817 2239 319 to let me know you just made this decision. Remember to include your mobile number and email address.

Before I leave you today, shall we pray for God’s intervention and blessings upon your academic life? Truth is, there is nothing beyond God’s reach or ability. Pray with me wherever you are right now. I believe that God’s power will reach out to you whatever your situation is today.

Since you’re reading this message on your phone, Pc or Ipad, please place your hand on whatever device you’re using as we share this prayer: Lord we thank You for this moment and I pray for my Readers that You will open the eyes of their understanding to the solutions to their challenges. There is a way in You Lord. Show each of them the way for each of their needs in Jesus name. Amen.

Please expect a divine answer. God never lies!

Continue to expect the best from yourself and continue to maintain a great attitude regardless whatever happens.
