29. Turning Adversity Into Advancement
29. Turning Adversity Into Advancement
When one man went asked a preacher,
“Please pray for me that I will never have any more problems”, the preacher
responded, “Then we’ll pray that you die and God takes you home!” In shock the
man said, "No!" He didn’t want to die yet!!
The preacher told him that as long as he
is in this world he would experience problems.
Adversity can only make life difficult. It cannot destroy your academic
goals and dreams, unless you permit it to!
Friends, welcome to Intervention, an outreach of
VISION BUILDERS designed to help undergraduates contact divine intervention for
academic victories. Intervention brings you inspirational messages and Study
Tips to enable you be your best academically! Through this message, we believe
that God is set to bless you by removing every barrier against your academic
success and fulfillment.
We will take today’s bible reading, James 1:2-4, from the God’s Word translation bible.
It states, “My brothers and sisters, be very happy when you are
tested in different ways. You know that such testing of your faith produces
endurance. Endure until your testing is over. Then you will be mature and
complete, and you won't need anything.” James 1:2-4
Mary Groda-Lewis had a medical condition
called Dyslexia which impairs the ability to learn to read. Although it kept
her illiterate for sixteen years she held on to her goal of becoming a medical
doctor! Talk about dreaming the impossible! Although her journey to fulfillment
was very difficult, she achieved her dream and became a medical doctor in 1984,
at the age if thirty five!
During her adversity, she was committed to
a reformatory on two different occasions, almost died of a stroke while bearing
a child, worked at a variety of odd jobs to save money to attend school,
graduated with her high school equivalency at eighteen.
Despite her handicap, she was named
Oregon's outstanding Upward Bound student, and finally entered college. She
also faced fifteen medical school tests and rejections until Albany Medical
College finally accepted her. Finally in 1984, Dr. Mary Groda-Lewis, graduated
with honors. Talk about turning adversity into advancement!
Are you
experiencing difficulties? Today’s bible reading challenges you to endure
until your testing is over. Then you will be mature and complete, and you won't
need anything. Whatever your
adversity may be called, it is merely a smoke screen. Dr. Mary Groda-Lewis held
on to her dream and eventually became a medical doctor. You can achieve your
goals regardless. Maintain a positive attitude, focus on your set goals, use
your known strengths and continue to depend on God and trust Him for His help.
He will definitely come through for you.
And talking about depending on God and
trusting Him, can you really trust someone you have no relationship with? To
know God enough to trust Him for your life and academics you need to have a
relationship with Him. Did you know that you can start a very personal
relationship with God today? In fact right now. Pray this simple prayer: Heavenly
Father I ask you to please come into my life today. I believe that your son
Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose from the dead. Forgive all my sins today
and make me your child. Fill me with your Holy Spirit right now and bring
stability into my academics and life. Thank you for coming. Amen.
If you prayed this prayer, then know that
you have begun a relationship with God. He has come into your life and will
begin working in your life and academics. Please send me an email to buildyourvisions@gmail.com or an SMS to 0817 2239 319 to tell me that you just started a relationship with

your academic goals and whatever happens know that God will come through for
you.
Continue to expect the best from yourself and continue to maintain a
great attitude regardless whatever happens.
