38. DELIVERANCE FROM TROUBLE
38. DELIVERANCE FROM
TROUBLE
“They wandered in the
wilderness in a desolate way; They found no city to dwell in. Hungry and
thirsty, Their soul fainted in them. Then they cried out to the Lord in their
trouble, And He delivered them out of their distresses. And He led them forth
by the right way, That they might go to a city for a dwelling place. Oh, that
men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works
to the children of men!”
Ps 107:4-8
Academic
trouble is something that no student desires. Just the thought of it hinders
focus and concentration which is required for achieving the best possible
results. However, not every problem an undergraduate encounters is a work of
the devil, in that sense. Sometimes the person in the problem is the very cause
of it.
While
ministering to some undergraduates the Lord told me to make them distinguish
between who needs miraculous help and who needs a change of attitude. It is not
always you need a ‘miracle prayer’ for change. In some cases, all that is
required is a change of attitude and practice. For example, difficulty with
remembering what was read can be corrected over time by reading and studying
more for longer periods at regular times and places. So I asked, “Is the
problem you are facing academically one that you can do something about, please
sit down.” Quite a number sat down. Now I ask you my reader the same question.
Do you need a miracle or merely a change of attitude to deal with what you are
facing right now?
Our opening
text tells about people who were in dire circumstances. Nothing was working
out, even after doing all they knew to do. The bible used the word ‘Distress’.
Distress is Psychological suffering or a state of adversity (danger, affliction
or need). Are you in distress academically? Are you suffering psychologically
or facing adversity? Are you confronted by problems you cannot help yourself
out of? It’s time to call upon the Lord like the people in our text. And you
know the good news in all this? Back then, ‘they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, And He delivered them out
of their distresses’. He will deliver you also today.
Let’s say
this prayer together, “Father, I thank
You because You are a good God. You promised to deliver me out of my
distresses, so today I call out to you concerning my situation (mention it).
Please deliver me and lead me forth by the right way. In Jesus’ name, Amen. As simple as this prayer is, I want you to
believe that God has come into your situation and shortly you will testify.
You are
blessed!
